Hi, I’m Melissa McCall—literacy enrichment teacher, trainer, curriculum creator, and founder of Moving Little Minds.

With over 20 years in early education, I’ve worked in classrooms, trained teams, and supported hundreds of preschool teachers and directors across the country.

I created Alphabet Academy after seeing so many teachers rely on outdated practices like “Letter of the Week,” which simply isn’t effective. What was missing was a clear, Science of Reading–aligned path for teaching the alphabet that’s both research-based and playful.

Now I get to watch teachers light up as they finally feel confident moving beyond one-letter-a-week instruction and instead use strategies that help children recognize, connect, and apply letters with meaning. Their students thrive—building strong alphabet knowledge that truly prepares them for reading success.

This course is everything I wish I had when I was starting out, and it’s here to help you teach the alphabet with confidence, clarity, and purpose.

“We already use a handwriting curriculum.”

Perfect—but handwriting and alphabet knowledge are two different skills. One is fine motor, the other is cognitive. Children need both, and this course shows you how to teach letter learning in a way that complements—not conflicts with—your handwriting program.

“This just seems like more work.”

It’s actually less. While there is a plan, if your schedule gets off pace, it's not a problem. Constant review takes the pressure off—you’ll feel lighter, and your students will remember more.
